Chartered building surveyor & commerical mediator
John has specialised in property law since qualifying as a Chartered Building Surveyor. This was augmented by the undertaking of an LL.M in Advanced Commercial Property law at Northumbria University School of Law, where his thesis focused on the law of dilapidations.
He has a continual workload dealing with rights of light and daylight/sunlight matters in terms of assessment and reporting and the provision of strategic advice thereon.
John is also an accredited commercial mediator and also holds the CUBS Expert Witness Certificate (civil) which assists in his frequent role as an expert witness, including regular appointments as a Single Joint Expert pursuant to CPR Part 35. He has attended the Technology & Construction Court (High Court) and given expert evidence.
John regularly accepts third surveyor referrals under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 as well as acting as an appointed or agreed surveyor on a wide range of party wall instructions nationwide.
With a keen interest in professional standards, he is an APC chairman, auditor and appeals panel member for the RICS Assessment of Professional Comptence and also a member of the conduct & disciplinary committee of the Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors, of which he is also a member.
